ARTIST STATEMENT

My sculpture is rooted in the human figure and in the emotions that can be expressed through gesture, posture, and form. I am drawn to moments that feel quiet but meaningful—reflection, strength, tenderness, resilience, and connection.

I approach each piece as both a study of anatomy and an exploration of character. My goal is not simply to reproduce the figure accurately, but to create a presence that feels alive and emotionally accessible. A subtle turn of the head, the position of a hand, or the balance of the body can communicate as much as facial expression, and I use those details to suggest a story without fully defining it for the viewer.

I work in ceramic, resin, Hydrocal, and bronze, and I enjoy how each material contributes a different character to the finished sculpture. Surface treatments, patinas, and bronze- or copper-infused finishes allow me to further shape the mood of a piece while preserving the tactile qualities of the original sculpted form.

Much of my work is influenced by observation, personal experience, and an appreciation for the dignity found in ordinary human moments. Whether I am creating an intimate figurative study, a portrait, or a larger narrative work, I want the sculpture to invite the viewer to pause, look more closely, and form their own emotional connection with the subject.

Ultimately, I hope my work communicates both strength and humanity and creates a lasting sense of presence beyond the physical object itself.
